Flying with Your KERDOM DX07: Airline & Battery Guide

The DX07’s folding frame and removable lithium-ion battery can make air-travel planning easier. Contact your airline before departure to confirm acceptance of your exact chair, battery configuration and any spare battery.

Confirm Your Battery Before You Fly

The standard DX07 is listed with a 24V 12Ah lithium-ion battery, equivalent to 288Wh per battery. Use the label on your actual battery when speaking with the airline.

What to Confirm:

  • Battery details: Send the airline a clear photo of the label showing voltage, amp-hours and watt-hours. Ask what documentation it needs.
  • Your configuration: Explain how many batteries you intend to bring and whether each is installed, removed or spare.
  • Chair information: Provide the 36.5-lb weight without battery and folded dimensions of 29″ L × 14″ W × 23″ H. Confirm cargo-space limits, gate-check arrangements and assistance.

Battery Handling & Cabin Rules

Battery removal is not required in every situation. Airline instructions and the battery’s protection determine how it travels.

Key U.S. FAA Rules:

  • Protected installed battery: A securely attached battery may remain installed if the chair adequately protects it from damage and short circuit, and accidental activation is prevented.
  • Removed main battery: If protection is inadequate or removal is required, carry the removed lithium-ion battery in the cabin. Under FAA mobility-device rules, it must not exceed 300Wh.
  • Spare batteries: FAA guidance permits one spare up to 300Wh or two spares up to 160Wh each. A 288Wh DX07 spare falls under the one-spare option, not the two-spare option.
  • Protect every loose battery: Protect terminals from short circuit and place each removed or spare battery in its own protective pouch. Do not put loose lithium batteries in checked luggage.

Always confirm first: Airlines and international routes may have more restrictive rules. Review the FAA mobility-device battery guidance and get approval for your actual battery arrangement.

At the Airport & Boarding Gate

Allow extra time for check-in, security screening and the chair’s handoff.

Travel-Day Checklist:

  • Explain your assistance needs: Tell security staff whether you can stand or walk and request appropriate screening. See TSA accessibility guidance for U.S. guidance.
  • Prepare the chair: Switch it off before handoff. Follow staff instructions for battery handling, folding and securing removable parts. Show safe lifting points and label the chair with your contact details.
  • Arrange return: Ask where your chair will be returned after landing. Inspect the frame, wheels, controller, battery connection and brakes before using it again.

Security and transport are separate: Passing TSA screening does not guarantee airline acceptance or cabin storage of the wheelchair.

Recommended Travel Accessories for Your DX07

A few thoughtfully chosen accessories can make packing easier, keep essentials close and add comfort during your trip. Choose what suits your travel plans—you do not need every accessory to fly with your DX07.

Your Travel Essentials:

  • Electric Wheelchair Travel Carry Bag — For the Folded Chair: Compatible with the DX07, this bag provides a cover for your folded wheelchair during transport and storage. Before gate check, ask staff when to fit the bag and show them the chair’s safe lifting points.
  • KERDOM Reflective Seatback Wheelchair Bag — For Extra Storage: Keep lightweight travel supplies together in a seatback bag with reflective detailing. Secure it without blocking the wheels or folding mechanism, and remove valuables and loose bags before handing the chair to airline staff.
  • Battery Storage Bag With Combination Lock — For Battery Organization: Keep your removed battery organized in a dedicated bag. Protect its terminals from short circuit and pack each battery separately as instructed by your airline. Keep the battery accessible for inspection and carry removed or spare lithium-ion batteries in the cabin, not checked luggage.
  • Inflatable Air Cell Wheelchair Cushion — 17″ × 17″ — For Seating Comfort: Adjustable, interconnected air cells provide comfortable support for everyday wheelchair seating. Check the cushion’s fit and inflation instructions, and confirm that the added seat height works with your posture, footrest and transfers.
  • KERDOM Multi Pocket Organizer — For Essentials Within Reach: Keep your phone, keys, water bottle and other small items organized while moving through the terminal or exploring your destination. Check the attachment fit and keep the organizer clear of the joystick, wheels and folding joints.

Before You Pack: Check each product page for current availability and fit. A travel bag does not guarantee protection against airline handling damage, and a battery bag does not replace terminal protection or airline approval. Accessories must not interfere with safe operation or your airline’s packing requirements.
