Your Questions, Answered

We know choosing a mobility solution is a big decision. Here you’ll find clear, honest answers to the most common questions about KERDOM® foldable electric wheelchairs.

Travel

Water Resistance and Submersion

Can my KERDOM® electric wheelchair fit in a vehicle?

Yes, once folded into their compact form, all models can easily fit into most vehicle trunks.

Can I travel on an airplane with my KERDOM® electric wheelchair?

Yes, our  KERDOM® foldable electric wheelchairs are under the approved category for airplane travel. Various airlines and countries may have different regulations on bringing an electric wheelchair onto an airplane, so please refer to the individual airline's policies for more details.

Is your battery approved for airplane travel?

Your FOLD & GO battery is purposefully designed to meet all FAA and IATA regulations for domestic and international travel. You can drive your chair right down to the opening of the aircraft. Please watch our airport travel video to tips on traveling with your chair. This video contains actual footage of us using our chairs at the airport.

Is the KERDOM® Wheelchair capable of driving through puddles?

Yes. Unlike the vast majority of electric wheelchairs—which are merely "water-resistant" and susceptible to short-circuiting in damp conditions—the KERDOM® is engineered with a True Weatherproof System.

Ingress Protection (IP66): Our chassis and internal electronics have achieved an IP66 rating. This technical standard confirms that the device is protected against high-pressure water jets and heavy seas. In practical terms, this means driving through standard rain-induced puddles will not compromise the electrical integrity of the motors, CPU, or battery.

Ground Clearance Advantage: With a maximum ground and puddle clearance of 5 inches (when the footrest is in the upright position), the chair is designed to navigate urban environments where poor drainage often creates standing water.

Comprehensive Warranty Coverage: Our confidence in this engineering is backed by a 3-year warranty that explicitly covers "puddles" and "flooding" conditions. While competitors often void warranties the moment moisture is detected in the joystick or battery compartment, we treat weather-related performance as a core product standard.

Critical Safety Boundary: While the chair is designed to drive through puddles, it should never be submerged (where water reaches the seat level) or used as a "shower chair." Constant exposure to the pressurized, chemically treated water of a shower can lead to frame corrosion and seat material degradation that is not covered under the standard weatherproof warranty.

Post-Exposure Protocol: After navigating through deep puddles or muddy water, we recommend a simple "wipe-down" of the exterior frame and motor housings with a clean, dry cloth. This prevents the accumulation of road debris and grit, ensuring the mechanical joints remain fluid and the finish stays pristine.

Is your Wheelchair REALLY Weatherproof?

Absolutely!!!!!!! We believe you and I should not be limited because of the weather conditions. When it rains “able-bodied” people still go to work, run errands, visit friends, pick up the kids from school, etc.

Our competitors want to see our rain reports to prove our claim. We can provide those…PLUS, our 3-year warranty covers ALL weather conditions: rain, mud, snow, slush, puddles, and everything else.

BOTTOMLINE: If you drive our competitors chairs in the rain and they STOP working, they will charge you to buy all new electronics! We will not, it’s a warranty issue for us here at KERDOM®. By the way, we have never had a weather conditions warranty claim on our chairs. (this is where we drop the mic)

FOLD & GO IP Rating: IP66
6 – Total protection from dust / No ingress of dust
6 – Protection against high pressure water jets and temporary flooding

Mud&Snow&Slush Performance

Battery Management & Longevity

Can the KERDOM® Wheelchair be operated on beach terrain or sandy surfaces?

  • The  KERDOM® Electric Wheelchair is engineered for diverse outdoor environments; however, performance on sand is dictated by surface density:
  • Hard-Packed/Firm Sand: The wheelchair is fully capable of navigating firm, moisture-dense sand typically found near the tide line. The high-torque motors provide sufficient traction for stable transit across these compacted surfaces.
  • Deep/Loose Sand: Operation in deep, soft, or powdery sand is not recommended. Like most lightweight power mobility devices, the wheels may sink or "dig in," leading to increased motor strain and potential immobilization.
  • Pro-Tip for Longevity: If you operate your chair near the ocean, we recommend wiping down the frame and wheel assemblies with a damp cloth afterward to remove salt spray and fine grit, ensuring the continued integrity of the weatherproof seals and mechanical joints.

Is the KERDOM® Wheelchair capable of driving through snow?

  • Yes. The  KERDOM® is specifically engineered to remain operational in winter conditions where many competitors fail. Our design philosophy prioritizes year-roundindependence, ensuring that cold weather does not restrict your mobility.
  • Weatherproof Integration: All critical electrical components—including the joystick, CPU, and motor assemblies—are housed in weatherproof enclosures. The chair’s IP66 rating ensures that melting snow, slush, and salt-heavy road spray will not penetrate the electronics or trigger a short circuit.
  • Warranty Coverage: Unlike the industry standard, our 3-year warranty explicitly includes damage resulting from exposure to snow and slush. We stand behind our weatherproofing; if the electronics fail due to moisture ingress from winter driving, it is treated as a covered warranty issue.
  • Operational Limitations: While the electronics are protected, users should exercise caution regarding traction. Like any wheeled vehicle, the chair’s performance is subject to the laws of physics. It will navigate successfully through light-to-moderate snow and slush on paved surfaces, but it may lose traction in deep, unplowed drifts or on sheer ice.
  • Post-Winter Maintenance Recommendation: To prevent long-term cosmetic degradation, we recommend rinsing the frame with fresh water (avoiding high-pressure hoses near the bearings) after exposure to road salt or de-icing chemicals. This prevents the corrosive salt from affecting the finish or the integrity of the mechanical joints over time.

Is the KERDOM® Wheelchair capable of driving through mud?

  • Yes. The KERDOM® is designed for "off-pavement" versatility, allowing users to navigate parks, trails, and unpaved pathways where mud is frequently encountered.
  • High-Torque Drive System: Unlike standard indoor power chairs that "spin out" on soft surfaces, our dual-motor system provides the necessary torque to maintain forward momentum through muddy terrain. The tire tread is specifically patterned to provide traction on slippery, semi-solid surfaces.
  • Sealed Electrical Housing: Mud often involves high moisture content. Because our units carry an IP66 weatherproof rating, the mud and dirty water kicked up by the tires will not penetrate the motor housings or the sensitive CPU, ensuring the electronics remain protected even in messy environments.
  • Warranty Integration: Our 3-year "Weatherproof" warranty explicitly covers driving in mud. We believe a mobility device should not limit your lifestyle based on ground conditions.

When is it recommended to charge battery or batteries?

Our chairs come with Lithium-ion batteries like a smartphone, computer or tablet. We recommend fully charging the batteries only when they get low. The 7 lights on the joystick will indicate when it is low. Our batteries have a life cycle of 1,000 charges. If the batteries are charged every day, in less than 3 years you will be through 1,000 charges. If the batteries are charged only when they get low, for instance once a week, then the battery life can double that to 4-5 years.

What is the safe storage temperature range for the batteries?

  • Fahrenheit:0° to 140°
  • Celsius:-20° to 60°

Can I use my KERDOM® overseas where the voltage is different?

Yes! Our battery charger has an Input: ~100-240V 50/60Hz 65W — This means the KERDOM® WHEELCHAIR is compatible with multiple voltages. Our chairs can be brought just about anywhere in the world, and any difference in voltage is basically irrelevant. The wheelchair (or charger) adjusts itself to whatever voltage it receives. The only issue is whether or not the plug can physically interface with the socket. The appropriate travel plug adapter is all that’s needed.
  • U.S./Canada are 110-120 Volts
  • Europe/Worldwide are 220-240 Volts

What type of Outlet Should I use to Charge my Batteries?

Your KERDOM® Charger should be plugged into a standard 110 outlet or 220 outlet. Do not use a GFI Outlet (include a breaker), Light Switch/Plug Combo Outlet, or add a surge protector or extension cord. Keep it simple. You only need to plug the charger into a standard wall outlet.

Can the batteries remain on the charger overnight?

Absolutely! If you want to charge your chair overnight, that is totally fine and does not damage the batteries. Your KERDOM® batteries will be fully charged in as little as 5-hours.

When the chair is not in use do the batteries drain or go dead?

No! Our batteries do not draw when the chair is off. If you use your chair and then store it for 1 day, or 1 week, or 1 month, or 1 year. When you go to use the chair again, the battery level will be in the exact same spot as when you last drove the chair.
